Selling to Conad: how to get listed

Updated:

In short

Conad is a system of more than 2,100 independent store owners, grouped in five regional cooperatives and led by a national consortium in Bologna. It is Italy's number two by market share and the leader in supermarkets. The consortium is the central buyer and runs the Conad private label, Italy's largest. Decisions are more central than at Selex or VéGé, so the national negotiation matters most. There is no public "become a supplier" page.

How Conad buys

  • Central: the consortium negotiates with national and international suppliers for the whole system (Conad Annual Report 2025). The competition authority describes Conad's decision-making as highly centralised, close to a chain with its own stores (AGCM bulletin 6/2026).
  • Regional: each store is tied to one cooperative and its ce.di., which coordinates local commercial activity (AGCM bulletin 6/2026).
  • Alliances: Conad and Finiper are listed together as a buying alliance (17.05% share) (AGCM bulletin 6/2026). At European level Conad is part of AgeCore, with Colruyt, Coop Suisse, Eroski and, since January 2025, Kaufland (Conad Annual Report 2025).

Getting listed at Conad

  • Contact: we could not find a public supplier page or form. The consortium in Bologna lists only a general phone number (Conad contacts).
  • Private label: more than 800 partner companies make Conad-brand products, and 83% of the plants are in Italy. Conad runs a supplier rating system and inspections (Conad Annual Report 2025).
  • Regional work: after a central agreement, plan field work with each cooperative and its stores, because store owners run their own shops (Conad, organisational model).
