Aldi in Germany is two companies: Aldi Nord, based in Essen, and Aldi Süd, based in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Each has its own buying team, and you deal with them separately. They cooperate in purchasing, and since 2019 an own-label supplier negotiates with only one of the two. About 90% of Aldi's range is own label, so most suppliers produce Aldi brands. Aldi Süd has a public supplier form; for Aldi Nord we found none.

How Aldi buys

Two buyers: Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord each have their own buying organisation (Aldi, 10 Sep 2026). They cooperate: in 2018 they announced joint buying of non-food and promotional goods (Börsen-Zeitung, 15 Feb 2018), and since 2019 an own-label supplier negotiates with only one of the two; own labels were aligned across both by the end of 2020 (Lebensmittel Zeitung, 4 Jul 2019).
Leaner head office: Aldi Süd is cutting several hundred jobs in Mülheim, including in purchasing, as part of its IT harmonisation project "Ahead" (Lebensmittel Praxis, 23 Jan 2026).

Private label and sustainability

Own brands: about 90% of the range, with brands such as Tandil, Lacura, Milsani and Rio d'Oro (Aldi, 10 Sep 2026).
Animal welfare (Aldi Süd): by 2030 all fresh meat, drinking milk and chilled meat products should come from husbandry levels 3, 4 and 5. Own-label drinking milk reached this in February 2024; about 60% of fresh meat is there today (Aldi Süd animal welfare).
