Industry: Consultation opens on changes to 16 food law ordinances
In short
Switzerland opened a consultation on proposed changes to 16 food law ordinances on 13 October 2026, running until 27 January 2027. The proposals cover origin labelling for honey blends, bisphenols in food-contact materials, chemicals in toys and testing novel foods before authorisation.
What it means for suppliers
- For honey blends from several countries, suppliers would have to label every country of origin and its share of the finished product.
- Suppliers of food-contact materials would need to check adhesives and rubber against the proposed extension of the ban on bisphenol A and other dangerous bisphenols.
- Toy suppliers would face a full ban on CMR substances, PFAS and substances that disrupt the hormonal system under the proposed rules.
- Novel food developers could test products with participants before authorisation, provided safety is ensured and documented.
