Listing fee

A one-off payment a supplier makes to a retailer to get a new product listed in its range. It is also called a slotting fee or listing charge.

Why it matters

Listing fees add to the cost of a launch before a single unit is sold. A KAM needs to know them up front to judge whether a listing will pay back.

Example

A brand pays a listing fee for three new SKUs, plus a promotion in the launch month. If rate of sale is too low after six months, the retailer may delist them and the fee is lost.
